CASE STUDY

"Why am I paying a COO a six figure salary to spend four days fine tuning a PowerPoint?"

- Brian Glick, CEO, Chain.io

The Customer

Supply chain logitics platform Chain.io connects systems and data across the global supply chain. Pretty cool. Sounds so fancy.

Industry: Logistics

The Problem

Every board meeting led to a different iteration of the materials suggested for the next meeting. Way more time was spent on what the presentation looked like versus more engagement with the board resulting in meaningful conversations about the business.

The Solution

Using Zeck, Chain.io has shaved 90% of their prep time and has successfully transformed their  meetings into real productive and forward-thinking conversations.

The Benefits

Chain.io not only uses Zeck for their board meetings, but also for their midway board checks and all of their internal leadership meetings.

Why Chain.io came to Zeck

Supply chain platform Chain.io was created after continuously running into problems in the logistics space and knowing there had to be a better way out there.

This same type of frustration led CEO Brian Glick to a demo with Zeck. Every time he was about to prepare for another board meeting, they ran into the same issues and he knew there had to be a better way.

Board meetings became grueling and unproductive. They spent way too much time at each board meeting actually discussing how they should present their data for the next board meeting. And with every iteration, they’d have to rebuild the deck to tell a different story. Total nightmare.

Frustration mounted seeing as these board members are adults, and they should be getting to the part where they're talking, not the part where they're arguing over whether it should be a bar chart or a line graph on their board materials.

This is exactly what led Chain.io to Zeck…

A time savings of 90%

Chain.io shaved their preparation time by a crazy 90%. Before Zeck, C-suite executives at Chain.io collectively spent 40-50 hours prepping for board meetings. It’s kind of ridiculous to think of the amount of hours these execs spent fine tuning power point presentations which no one probably read.

Now they spend 4 hours. How do you like them apples?

Know the movie that apples line is from? Email us at success@zeck.app with the answer and we’ll send you a napkin with a drawing of an egg on it. Work of art to say the least.

An unexpected impact? I think I underestimated the value of getting the comments in advance. Knowing what I’m walking into and not getting blindsided - I don’t stress as much now.

- Brian Glick, CEO

We can’t forget about Liz

Brian claims VP of Finance, Liz, probably loves Zeck more than anyone. Now, when her team is preparing their financials - they update the native spreadsheet and hit sync in Zeck and it automatically updates the files in their board materials. The only real thing she has to do is take a screenshot of a pie chart and replace that in her section in Zeck.

“That’s probably it. That is probably the single largest labor effort is Liz going in and cutting and pasting pie charts into the ones we have in there. That’s it.”

And, Chain.io isn’t just using Zeck for board meetings

Not only does Chain.io use Zeck for their board meetings - but they’ve also created various templates within Zeck to prepare for and conduct their Internal leadership meetings, board meetings and even their board check-ins half-way between each board meeting. All fundamentally saving time and creating more engagement across the board.

The unexpected benefits

Brian came to Zeck to solve a problem, what he didn’t realize was that there were even more problems to solve that seemed to just be ‘the way things were done.’ Yet now there was actually a solution.

“An unexpected impact? I think I underestimated the value of getting the comments in advance. Knowing what I’m walking into and not getting blindsided - I don’t stress as much now.”

Chain.io’s CEO used to hold pre-calls with his team to go over their material before the board presentation - those calls have since been eliminated. There’s just no need now that he can look at the comments and engagement during the pre-read and see exactly what everyone is most interested in talking about. And, what items can be closed because they were solved in the pre-read.
